Work at home scams

For years, people have been robbed by work at home scams and lost a great deal of money trying to earn a legitimate income.  With promises of overnight riches on the internet, it's no surprise that so many people have come online trying to get their own share of the pie.

Here, you have to be careful and not mistake a work at home job with a work at home opportunity.  The two are totally different and do not work the same way at all.

When talking about a work at home job, we're talking about working for an employer who will pay you a salary to work for them.

How do you recognize a work at home job scam?

It's much easier than you think.  According to the dictionary, a job is defined as a "paid position for employment".

First of all, you should never pay a company to work for them, even if you can work from your home.  An employer pays YOU to work for them, you don't pay them to give you a job.

How about stuffing envelopes for example?  If you just THINK about this for a minute, you'll see how ridiculous it really sounds.

A company offers to pay you an outrageous amount of money to stuff envelopes.  But first, you have to send them money so they can teach you what to do and send you the material you'll need.  You see these ads all over the internet.  Is the company advertising the job?  Have you ever seen these ads on a job site?  Of course not!

What you see are ads placed by people who were ripped off with this scam.  In order to recover their own money, these people have to scam others into the same thing.

The same holds true for doing crafts at home.  You have to send money to get the materials shipped to your home.  Then you have to pay again to send your finished crafts back to the company.  No matter how hard you worked and how well made your crafts are, the company will always tell you that your crafts do not meet their standards, therefore, they don't have to pay you anything.  You just lost money.

If you've never seen the ad on a job site, the odds are that it's not a real job.  Period.  Legitimate work from home jobs are few and far in between and will not be found on classified ad websites on the internet.

  • A legitimate work at home JOB will not have any type of matrix attached to it.
  • A legitimate work at home JOB will not be found on the general classified websites on the internet.
  • A legitimate work at home JOB will be advertised by the hiring company on a job site, or the employment agency recruiting for the employer, not the people who supposedly work for them and post the ad in general classifieds.

There is a difference between "work at home jobs" and "work at home contract jobs".  See the section on "legitimate work at home jobs".

Although you should never pay to find a job, there may be a fee to find work at home contract jobs.  This is perfectly legal and many people find legitimate contracts through these sites.  Do your homework before paying a large fee to any company.  Many are legal, but a few are also there just to take your money and provide nothing in return.
